3 common problems in the mechanical seal of the fire pump

Problem 1: The more the amount of spring compression, the sealing effect may be not better.

Why do I say that? During the use of the fire pump, you will find that the excessive compression of the spring will cause the friction pair to wear sharply and burn out instantly. Excessive compression will cause the spring to lose the ability to adjust the end face of the moving ring, resulting in seal failure.

Problem 2: The static ring seal is not as tight as possible.

We all know that the static ring seal is basically at rest, and the relatively tight seal will be better, but overtightening is actually harmful. There are three main reasons:

  1. Cause static ring seal to be excessively deformed, affecting the sealing effect;
  2. Static ring material is mostly graphite, which is generally brittle, and excessive force is easy to cause fragmentation;
  3. Once the static ring seal is tight, it is particularly difficult to install and disassemble, which will easily damage the static ring.

Problem 3: The moving ring seal is not as tight as possible.

The overtightening of the moving ring seal is harmful and unhelpful. Why? First, the tightening of the moving ring seal will aggravate the wear between the seal ring and the shaft sleeve, and leak out prematurely. Secondly, the overtightening of the moving ring seal ring will increase the resistance of the moving ring in the axial adjustment and movement, and cannot be adjusted at the right time when the working conditions change frequently. In addition, the overtightening of the moving ring seal will cause the spring to be excessively fatigued and easily damaged; finally, will also deform the moving ring seal and affect the sealing effect.
